The Coaster at Playland in Vancouver, BC is Canada's oldest wooden roller coaster. It is not only an important part of Canada's Heritage but is also an important part of the Heritage of my family. This project looks at the designer, construction, features and operations, maintenance, fame and recognition and my family's stories of riding the Coaster over 5 generations.

Phaedra - Midgic, New Brunswick

My grandfather, Dr. Gillespie, was the head of the Cystic Fibrosis clinic in Halifax, Nova Scotia. He was very devoted to his patients and would spend hours with them. My grandfather was sick in university, so he knew what it was like to lie in bed hour after hour. My grandfather was a kind and compassionate doctor that would do anything for his patients.

During WW1, Ukrainian immigrants were held in internment camps across Canada.

Are you ready for Young Citizens? Here are the key dates so you know what’s coming up next.

Winter and Spring 2019 — Heritage Fairs take place across the country.

June 4th — All Young Citizens should submit their videos to Canada’s History by this date.

June 11th — Voting Opens! Go to the profiles on YoungCitizens.ca and start voting for your favorite videos. You will be able to vote once for each video!

August 31st — Winners will be contacted by this date.

Fall 2019 or Winter 2020 — Winners will travel to Ottawa for the Canada’s History Forum (date to be confirmed).
