Jeunes Citoyens / Young Citizens

Brianna Old Perlican, Newfoundland and Labrador

Fair address: Avalon Regional Fair

Project: Looking Back

Since this was my last Heritage Fair, I decided to do my project about all the previous projects I have done during the past five years. I looked at the Cod Fishery, my family's fishing history, the Blundon family history, my Aunt Gus, and the St Barnabas A.C.W.

What was the most interesting thing you learned about your topic?

The most interesting thing I learned about doing my project was that my Barrett family has an amazing fishing history and always strives to do amazing while fishing, and that my great great great grandfather built the Blundon Heritage House in Bay de Verde.

What important lessons have you learned that you want to share with other Canadians?

I learned that Heritage Fairs are very important in preserving stories of the past and history. These Heritage Fairs also give us a better understanding of who our ancestors were and where we came from.

How would you compare your life today to the lives of those studied in your project?

Life is very different in the present day then in the past. In the past, life was all about working and finding a way to survive without room for relaxation. In the present day, almost every day we get the opportunity to relax and research about how life used to be.
