Fair address: Saskatoon Regional Saskatchewan Youth Heritage Fair

Project: 100 years of 4H in Saskatchewan

A look at the 4-H organization in Saskatchewan over the last 100 years. It examines the past, present & future of 4-H.

What was the most interesting thing you learned about your topic?

4-H has been around for a very long time and has taught generations of young people to "learn to do by doing". It is not only an agricultural organization but one that supports lots of interests. It encourages youth to make their club, country and community a better place.

What important lessons have you learned that you want to share with other Canadians?

The most interesting this I learned was that in 1917, the membership fee was 25 gopher tails. Also my family has been involved with 4H for 3 generations.

How would you compare your life today to the lives of those studied in your project?

I am involved with 4H today and a a lot has changed over the last 100 years. There have been projects added and removed and age categories added. Rules and regulations have changed but the thing that stays the same is that 4H continues to teach young people leadership skills and how to work hard and with others to achieve a common goal.

Great job, your video was very well done. It was cool that you had living cows and horses in the video as well!

Thanks for sharing the changes over the years. I was in the home ec division in the 70's in MB but learned quite a few new things through your video.
