Eryn Delisle, Saskatchewan

Fair address: Saskatoon Regional Saskatchewan Youth Heritage Fair

Project: Jack Hitchcock

Jack Hitchcock was a pioneer that came to Saskatchewan around the turn of the 20th century. Not only was he a pioneer but he was also an inventor, an adventurer, a rancher, a marksman, and a conservationist that will be forever remembered by those that had the pleasure of meeting him.

What was the most interesting thing you learned about your topic?

One of the lessons I've learned that I'd like to share with others is that hard work pays off. I have always been the type of person that puts in lots of effort but this is a good example of how it did me a favor in return. If I hadn't worked as hard as I did I wouldn't have gotten the opportunity to share my project with others in my country or even in my province at my provincial Heritage Fair.

What important lessons have you learned that you want to share with other Canadians?

One of the most interesting things that I learned about Jack Hitchcock is that although he lived a solitary life he had many really good relationships with people. He managed to stay connected by having conversations with people that lived near him. He also had a really good relationship with the Duck Lake First Nations and would look forward to their visits.

How would you compare your life today to the lives of those studied in your project?

Jack's Life was way more humble and simple then I could ever imagine living. He did everything by himself and didn't rely on things like electricity and indoor pluming to live happily. He also wasn't dependent on anybody for food or other necessities like we are today
