Max Charlottetown, Prince Edward Island

Fair address: Prince Edward Island Provincial Fair

Project: The Warburton Family

The Warburton family are very important pioneers in the early history of Charlottetown, Prince Edward Island, and Canada. In my project, I have explored how this important family have shaped our heritage on a local, provincial, and national level.

What was the most interesting thing you learned about your topic?

The most important lesson I have learned that I would like to share with other Canadians is the importance of recording our history. Whether in the form of pictures, books, stories, documents, or videos, without it being recorded and safely kept, then we will not have any information to look back upon. Without this important information, future generations will not understand how we lived today.

What important lessons have you learned that you want to share with other Canadians?

The most interesting thing I learned about my topic is how important the Warburton family is to our local, provincial and national history. To think that a founding Father of the First Responsible Government of PEI, a Land Agent, a premier, two mayors of Charlottetown, a Member of Parliament, three Members of the Legislative Assembly of PEI, a Supreme Court judge of PEI, and an author all came from the same family is quite remarkable.

How would you compare your life today to the lives of those studied in your project?

There's a lot more technology in our lives today as compared to those studied in my project. This technology has dramatically changed our lives over the years. In addition, transportation and communication has significantly changed from the lives of those in the early years to my life today. The changes and advancements in technology, communications and travel, have also provided more educational opportunities available to students today.
