Jeunes Citoyens / Young Citizens

Cierra Inverness , Prince Edward Island

Fair address: Prince Edward Island Provincial Fair

Project: Wonda Who Wanda Was

My project is on Wanda Wyatt and Wyatt heritage properties in Summerside PEI. I talk about her life, goals, and how she made a difference in the lives of women today.

What was the most interesting thing you learned about your topic?

The most interesting thing I learned is that how important Wanda was to Prince Edward Island. She donated to so many organizations throughout the island and without her some of these things may not exist today.

What important lessons have you learned that you want to share with other Canadians?

I’ve learned that you can make a difference. Although women were not allowed to be lawyers or have anything to do with law, she became the first women from PEI to study law.

How would you compare your life today to the lives of those studied in your project?

I compare my life today to the lives of those studied in my project because in the early 1900’s there were so many things women weren’t aloud to do. They were seen as the house maids and that’s all. Today women can do almost anything they want to do. Without Wanda Wyatt this could have never changed.
