Paige Albany, Prince Edward Island

Fair address: Prince Edward Island Provincial Fair

Project: Beaconsfield Historic House

This is the story of how Beaconsfield came to be. It explains the original owners all the way to present day.

What was the most interesting thing you learned about your topic?

I found out that Edith (Peake) Haviland's Father was Thomas Haviland, a Father of Confederation. My (5)th Great-Grandfather was George Coles, also a Father of Confederation so they would have known each other very well.

What important lessons have you learned that you want to share with other Canadians?

I have learned that the 1800's may seem to have been simpler times compared to today, people struggled more in some respects back then.

How would you compare your life today to the lives of those studied in your project?

I feel lucky to not have to live with diseases like the Peake children did. 4 children died of Diptheria. I also am happy to have electricity and running water.
