Project: Little Houses on the Prairies

A journey through the settlement of the prairie provinces. A look at the Dominion Lands Act and the homesteader experience.

What was the most interesting thing you learned about your topic?

It is interesting the homesteaders chose to leave everything behind them to come to Canada.

What important lessons have you learned that you want to share with other Canadians?

The conditions for the homesteaders were difficult. They are strong people that built beautiful communities.

How would you compare your life today to the lives of those studied in your project?

The people I studied in my project are my ancestors and they had a very very hard life compared to ours today. they had to work for every single thing had and we just have to go to the store and buy them

Ava’s comments on how hard her ancestors had to work really resonates with me. My grandmother used to tell me stories about how hard she worked. Ava is correct, as now we buy what we need
