Eli Oromocto First Nation , New Brunswick

Fair address: Anglophone West Regional Heritage Fair (Woodstock)

Project: Fred Sasakamoose

I wanted to create a project of one of my Indigenous heroes that have made a difference in not only Canadian/First Nations communities but also people living with disabilities.

What was the most interesting thing you learned about your topic?

Fred Sasakamoose was discovered for his skills within the residential school he attended.

What important lessons have you learned that you want to share with other Canadians?

Hockey is not just a sport but it creates a communities with memories along with teaching discipline and respect. “Always fulfill your dreams. We don’t have time to retaliate against hate.”

How would you compare your life today to the lives of those studied in your project?

I have more respect and appreciation for all the of the sports equipment that we have today compared to back in the 1930’s and 40’s.
