Lauryn Summerside, Prince Edward Island

Fair address: Prince Edward Island Provincial Fair

Project: Hayley Wickenheiser

My project is about the one, the only……….Hayley Wickenheiser!  Hayley had to work extremely hard to accomplish her goals.  She was and continues to be an inspiration on so many levels.  Thanks to Hayley, all women can strive for success in hockey.

What was the most interesting thing you learned about your topic?

The most interesting thing I learned while researching Hayley was the number of obstacles she consistently had to overcome to reach the top in women's hockey. An interesting fun fact I learned was that Hayley played in the 2014 Sochi Olympics with a broken foot!

What important lessons have you learned that you want to share with other Canadians?

Three important lessons I learned while doing this project are: No matter what the obstacles are, never give up on your dreams; hard work pays off; and women can do absolutely anything!

How would you compare your life today to the lives of those studied in your project?

Due to the the ground breaking efforts Hayley made in hockey, girls today, including myself, can strive to play professional hockey. She broke down the barriers for us all!
